Blast From The Past

In 1997, a 7,000 sqft upscale antique mall opened on Grandview Ave – taking it’s inspiration from the street – it was known as Grandview Mercantile. A few years later, a realization hit: the space just wasn’t big enough and they needed a “sister” store to sell pieces for clients who were looking for a way to market the furniture and home decor that no longer fit their lifestyle.

When Grandview Mercantile started looking for new space, its owners discovered a large run-down historic building in the Short North and decided to take the plunge and move the business. After six months rehabbing the space, Grandview Mercantile – and its “sister” store, Revue – opened in August of 2002.

insightlyNow, the Short North store boasts one of the most eclectic collections of antiques and consignment pieces. The Grandview Mercantile side features 40 of Ohio’s premier antique and vintage dealers showcasing everything from furniture dating to the late 1800’s thru mid-century, estate jewelry, fine art, vintage lighting, and one-of-a kind décor. The Revue side is a consignment store that offers previously owned fine furniture, china, lighting, and art from private estates. Hundreds of “fabulous finds” pour through their doors every week. Which is why it’s no surprise that the stores are known for their fast turnover.

Cbus Chic talked with Grandview Mercantile’s Sharon O’Brien to learn more about what the store(s) offer and the unique finds they offer customers.

O’Brien tells us, “There is a trend in home decor right now to surround yourself with things that you love – pieces that connect to you emotionally.” She said their customers aren’t limited by the dictates of interior design trends. “If they love something, they buy it,” she explains. Their customers are curating personal collections of pieces that bring comfort, make them smile or remind them of something important in their lives.

“People are approaching their homes as living portraits of who they really are,” O’Brien says.

And if you’re looking for that personally perfect piece, then make sure to stop in, especially this winter. O’Brien shares with Cbus Chic that, “During the holiday season, we have private shopping events with special discounts and gifts for our newsletter subscribers. Notices of these events are on our website plus our Newsletter Subscribers get early access to the savings.”

But if you’re in the mood for an immediate deal, the stores are offering a no fee, no interest extended layaway promotion on all jewelry priced $250 or higher. They have jewelry ranging from vintage sterling silver starting under $100 to a  7 carat diamond engagement ring priced at $45,000. According to O’Brien, these deals are “a great way to shop for the holidays without using your credit cards – plus you don’t have to pick it up until Dec 24so your significant other won’t find out,” she adds.
