Chic Spotlight: Yoga on High

Yoga on High offers many different yoga classes to help people find the yoga style they love.

Cbus Chic: What is Yoga on High?
Marcia Miller, Owner of Yoga on High: Yoga on High is both a neighborhood yoga studio and a nationally known yoga training center.

Cbus Chic: You got into yoga way before it became a “trend.” What originally inspired your studio?
Miller: There were many inspirations from the three women who partnered to make Yoga on High a great yoga studio. There weren’t other studios in town in those days and we created a place where we could have the atmosphere we wanted with the rooms and props specifically designed to maximize people’s experience. We wanted to have two styles of yoga and levels from beginners to experienced in both those styles. We did that from day one and still have levels so students can be met where they are with the yoga that is best for their needs and abilities. Our students were asking us to train them as teachers and we needed a place to do that.

Cbus Chic: What types of yoga classes do you offer?
Miller: Now we offer lots of styles of yoga, and still our aim is to let people find their own way to the style of yoga they love. We have classes for beginners through advanced in Hatha, Vinyasa, Sekoia, Aerial and Ashtanga with many specialty classes including Restorative yoga, Urban Zen, Trauma-Sensitive, MS, Accessible and Meditation, among others.

Cbus Chic: Where is Yoga on High located?
Miller: We’re at 1020 Dennison Avenue in Victorian Village, on the corner of West Starr. We are now just one block west of High Street.

Cbus Chic: What makes Yoga on High unique?
Miller: In addition to having some of the best homegrown local teachers in town, we host multiple teacher training programs with our most experienced teachers and the best guest teachers from around the world! People travel to Yoga on High from around the country to take part in our special programs including Beginning and Advanced Teacher Training, our Trauma Sensitive Training (EMBER), Urban Zen Integrative Therapy training, Meditation Teacher Training along with all levels of Reiki. We also run the Yoga on High Foundation through which we offer classes to people who wouldn’t ordinarily be able to afford yoga—men and women in prison, low income kids, people in hospices and hospitals and more.

Cbus Chic: Is there anything new on the horizon for Yoga on High?
Miller: We just moved this past summer from our longtime location on High Street to our new location listed above. The studio has been refurbished and refreshed and is ready for the next 20 years. Stay tuned—all the programs listed above are always improving and our community is outstanding.

Cbus Chic: Where can readers go to learn more, follow along, and sign up for a class?
