Women in Digital

Women in Digital is a space for connecting women in digital fields such as marketing, advertising, and communications.

With over 1,000 members, Women in Digital, a mission specializing in connecting women in the digital marketing, advertising and communication fields, is taking the nation by storm with hopes to open international chapters.

Melanie Farkas, Women in Digital Executive Director, says the organization aims to “connect women through engaging and educational events and to enable them with the confidence and membership tools they need to exchange their power.”

According to Farkas, Women in Digital Founder Alaina Shearer created the movement in June 2016 after she experienced sexism throughout her radio career and through her role as the founder of a digital marketing agency. From her struggle in the workplace, Shearer saw an opportunity to build relationships with other women facing the same issue and to “tap into the most powerful group of women in history to share those experiences and knowledge, and help each other succeed in their careers.”

Currently, Women in Digital owns chapters in 19 cities across America. Each chapter hosts monthly meet-ups and peer circles where members have a chance to participate in and trade favors through an Ask & Give Exchange, which allows women to share professional subjects, on which they need advice, ranging from topics about how to negotiate maternity leave to questions asking about setting up retargeting adds. These chapter events are exclusively offered to members to create a confidential environment, and membership to Women in Digital is restricted to women who are in the digital advertising, marketing, and communications fields.

Outside of meetings, members have access to a nationwide Women in Digital Slack account, a discount to the SXSW Conference, past conference workshops, and keynote videos. Women in Digital also hosts annual chapter meetings every April, which are open to members and non-members, where women looking to join chapters can learn more about the organization and listen to speakers and discuss educational topics.

In addition to chapter meetings, Women in Business hosts an annual conference open to men and women, which will be September 12-14, in Columbus. Farkas said the annual conference hosts speakers and welcomes “innovative minds within the digital creative industry for three days of knowledge and power.” Early bird tickets are sold now until May 1, and are available here.
