A Tart Taste

What began three years ago as a creative outlet for 22 year-old blogger Jordan Penix evolved into handmade lipstick shades that are now sold in local Columbus shops.

Jordan’s journey with The Tart Peach blog began as a creative outlet that allowed her family and friends to stay up-to-date with her daily happenings at Capital University. And while her degree was in Vocal Performance, it wasn’t Jordan’s only interest as a busy college student.

Her passion for writing influenced her decision to share her experiences through blog posts on The Tart Peach.

The Tart Peach blog has grown to become a travel diary with pictures and posts from Jordan’s latest trips. And the blog opened doors for the writing enthusiast through the launch of her Tart Peach Lipstick shades.

It wasn’t until last August when her boyfriend bought her a ‘do-it-yourself’ lip balm kit that she considered creating her own shades of lipstick. That very night she experimented with the kit and made the decision to turn her love of lipstick into an expansion of The Tart Peach blog.

“I don’t typically wear any other makeup on my face, so lipstick has always been that pop of color that I needed,” Jordan explains.

Jordan’s Tart Peach Lipstick shades have allowed her to meet several special people in the Columbus area. She’s had the privilege of meeting other crafters, including Under Aurora and Sara of Be Dazzled and Bath & Body Co. Jordan’s shades have even caught the attention of many local entrepreneurs like Jeni Britton Bauer, owner of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams.

Connections have also landed Jordan’s Tart Peach Lipstick a spot in the storefronts of local shops like One Six Five Jewelry and Replenish: the spa co-op

Jordan’s favorite shade (The Original Red) and her most popular shade, Rusty Maroon, can be purchased in the two local shops. You can also order them directly from her Tart Peach blog site starting at $20 a tube.

Her newest shade is a pink explosion squeezed into a matte black tube. The pink shade is her first ever fusion of two colors (red and white) blended into a marble pattern. All of the shades are conceptualized, mixed, and packaged by Jordan herself.

“It’s amazing how crafty, vibrant, and loving the Columbus community is,” Jordan says.
