The movement to #shoplocal isn’t slowing down any time soon. But when you shop local you’re helping those in your own community, who can then help other small business owners in turn.

Choosing to create opportunities in their own community, especially to at-risk youth and underrepresented women, is the mission behind LaDrea, a business that creates all-natural, spa-quality bath and body products and home fragrance items.

“We not only make amazing products, but we support other small business owners in their journey,” says Founder Andrea Carter. “We want to be a gathering place that will bring the community together.”

Carter has always been a helper, so she started Ladrea to inspire, empower, and elevate other women. “I graduated at 16 and went on to earn my Bachelor of Science in Consumer and Family Studies with a concentration in Fashion Technology,” says Carter.

Carter did all of that despite essentially being on her own, as well as a bout with Sepsis, which she says she doesn’t let stop her from moving forward with her life. So she knows what it means when someone says that with determination and perseverance, you can achieve anything. By surrounding women with other like-minded women, she wants to help others realize their potential.

Carter is the creator and founder of the business, with help from her husband Larry. “I could not have done this without the support of my husband of 27 years,” she says. “Larry has been there cheering me on from day one. Larry is great with the customers and you will find him on the sales floor most days.”

When you shop the store at 6562 Longshore Street in Dublin, you’ll find a variety of products including hydrating body oils, lotions made with aloe and argan oil, food cream, unrefined raw shea butter from Ghana, facial serums, and aromatherapy products. “We are all about wellness, self-care, and rejuvenating your mind,” adds Carter.

Carter says that much of what LaDrea does is to help make an impact on society by working with agencies that support getting our youth on the right path. “So many of us are out there today with no real role models or mentors,” she explains. “Having been an at-risk teen I can speak to overcoming those challenges and living your best life.”

You can check out LaDrea at its Dublin location, where they will now be offering the opportunity to pour your own candles.
