Personal stylists are no longer just a luxury for the rich and famous, they’re accessible right here in Central Ohio. You don’t have to spend a million bucks to make it worth your while, either. Sarah Smith-Girard and Katya Grishanova of Your Style Hunter are here to prove it to you.

The fashionable duo started Your Style Hunter in October of 2013, offering those in Columbus and Cincinnati the chance to not only employ their personal styling skills, but offer services like closet clean outs, wardrobe audits, image management, personal branding, and editorial styling.

As a former personal stylist herself, Smith-Girard is well versed in the fashion world. She’s worked as a personal stylist at major department stores, like Nordstrom’s and Sak’s, before Your Style Hunter, and eventually felt the need to do it on her own. After meeting Grishanova at a fashion show in 2013, the two decided to open up their own personal styling business, with the mindset of putting the client first above all.

“I love helping someone figure out who they are and what message they want to convey to the world,” says Smith-Girard. “We listen to you, we’re not pushing a set menu on you.”

“We’re not just faceless stylists craving money,” Grishanova adds, explaining they’re looking to embrace individuality and instill confidence in their clients.

Grishanova has always had a sincere interest in fashion, but after moving to the United States from Russia two years ago,she  began looking for other ways to express style. In addition to Your Style Hunter, she runs her own style blog, The Chemodan, which translates to “like a suitcase,” and along with Smith-Girard volunteers at Dress For Success as a personal stylist.

IMG_6953Your Style Hunter’s fashion influence and philanthropy doesn’t stop there. Both ladies are Co-Chairs of the VIP Finale Party Committee for CMH Fashion Week and Smith-Girard runs a NPO called She Means Business, whose mission is to empower women entrepreneurs to fulfill their dreams.

They say there is no “typical” week for their business, it depends on what clients they have on their schedule. They currently style Jennifer Wilson and Paola Casale of Hola! Columbus, the NBC4 daytime affiliate television show and recently completed styling an editorial shoot with Genoveva Christoff, a well known designer throughout the country.

For those who may be hesitant in considering hiring a personal stylist, Smith-Girard and Grishanova advise taking a low-key approach. “We can meet with you for an hour consultation or somewhere over coffee just to get to know you first.” “We have options a la carte. From there we can tell you what you should focus on (for your style needs) and how much it’s going to cost.”

Personal styling isn’t just for the ladies; Your Style Hunter has worked with both men and women all over the country. Some of their past clients include Devon Smith, NCAA Basketball Coach of Player Development for the Wichita State Shockers and R&B performer Ella Starr.

For spring and summer trends, Smith-Girard says to look out for tea length skirts and flat footwear. Grishanova predicts pastel colors will be popular, but those looking to rock the trend should know what colors will be most flattering.

In 2014 Your Style Hunter plans to increase their collaborations around Columbus and continue to build their brand. They’re looking forward to Columbus Fashion Week later this year and incorporating local designers into their everyday interactions with clients. In addition, they are developing a line of accessories and clothing, planning to eventually have a studio to shop in.

“PIMG_6958eople may know what they like but they may not have the confidence to attempt it. We’re that voice saying, “You can do this, and you should, and here’s why” says Smith-Girard. “We’re that person that’s just looking out for your best interests and wanting you to put your best foot forward.”
